Disabling the Ubuntu auto update dialog

I’ve lived with the Ubuntu auto-update dialog on my MythTV box for quite a while. Tonight I did a quick search to see how to disable it.

Thanks to this link: maketecheasier.com/remove-the-annoying-update-manager-pop-up-in-ubuntu-jaunty

… I discovered that turning off the update dialog was quick and easy. Just do:

gconftool -s --type bool /apps/update-notifier/auto_launch false

You don’t even need a sudo, since it’s just changing your user’s config.

No more popups obscuring MythTV! When something is annoying, a ten second web search can be a good thing.
